Druidismo, centros comerciales apocalpticos, restaurantes de temtica medieval, forma potica del siglo XII, surf rock, grgolas, gente del pantano y el caracterstico sonido de batera seca de Fleetwood Mac de los aos 70 son slo algunas de las maravillas dispares que informan las nuevas canciones.
Para las sesiones de grabacin del nuevo lbum, la banda volvi a trabajar con el productor Tom Dalgety, a quien el batera David Lovering se refiere como un quinto Pixie despus de producir Head Carrier de 2016, Beneath the Eyrie de 2019 y Doggerel de 2022. Al principio del proceso de grabacin en el estudio Guilford Sound de Vermont, la banda se dio cuenta de que las nuevas canciones se dividan en dos bandos: lo que llegaron a llamar las Dust Bowl Songs, nmeros con tintes country y estilo balada como ‘Primrose’ y ‘Mercy Me’, y por otro lado, los furiosos nmeros punk del lbum como ‘You’re So Impatient’ y ‘Oyster Beds’. Slo Jane (The Night the Zombies Came) se mantiene en los dos bandos: con reminiscencias de Phil Spector de principios de los 60, la banda toca el punto dulce entre lo pastoso y lo abrasivo, y es un tema que Black Francis supuestamente compar con ser perseguido por un enjambre de abejas.
Las sesiones tambin dieron la bienvenida a Pixies a la nueva bajista Emma Richardson (Band Of Skulls), la primera britnica que se une al grupo. Tambin se ha ampliado el papel del guitarrista Joey Santiago. Despus de con para Pixies en Doggerel, para el nuevo disco Santiago escribi la letra de Hypnotised completando una especie de acertijo lrico complejo, conocido como sestina.
