Criado en Inglaterra Hynes comenz su carrera musical en bandas de punk adolescente para rpidamente transformarse en Lightspeed Champion cuyos dos lbumes de pop orquestal deslumbraron a la crtica. En 2011 comenz con su nuevo alias, Blood Orange, y su trabajo previo ‘Freetown Sound’ (2016) fue destacado como uno de los mejores trabajos del curso y comparado a Kendrick Lamar y DAngelo por su visin de la vida de un hombre de color en la Amrica actual.
