Recientemente se han descubierto en la Biblioteca Pblica de Nueva York noventa minutos de msica indita de este grupo, que ofrecen una visin de una poderosa asociacin musical que termin demasiado pronto. Esta grabacin representa un momento muy especial en la trayectoria de John Coltrane -el verano de 1961- cuando su caracterstico y exttico sonido en directo, comnmente asociado a su Classic Quartet de los aos 62 a 65, estaba madurando y cuando se inspiraba en profundas fuentes africanas y experimentaba con la idea de los dos bajos tanto en el estudio (Ol) como en el escenario. Esta rarsima grabacin de “Africa” capta su visin expansiva de la poca.
