Down the Road Wherever es el noveno lbum de estudio de MARK KNOPFLER en solitario. Contiene 14 pausadas y elegantes nuevas canciones inspiradas en una gran variedad de temas. Mark tiene ojo de poeta para narrar los detalles que dotan a sus canciones de una geografa psicolgica nica. Esta forma de narrar historias sumada a su clido tono vocal del noroeste adems de su meldica, rica y diestra manera de tocar la guitarra estn como siempre muy presentes en este nuevo trabajo.
El nuevo lbum ha sido producido por Knopfler y Guy Fletcher y grabado en los estudios londinenses British Grove. La banda est formada por Mark Knopfler a las guitarras, Jim Cox y Guy Fletcher a los teclados, Nigel Hitchcock al saxo y Tom Walsh a la trompeta, John McCusker al violn, Mike McGoldrick a la flauta irlandesa y flauta, Glenn Worf al bajo, Ian Ianto Thomas a la batera y Danny Cummings en la percusin. Richard Bennett y Robbie McIntosh tambin intervienen a la guitarra y Trevor Mires al trombn. Imelda May, Kris Drever, Lance Ellington, Beverley Skeete y Katie Kissoon hacen los coros. Todos los temas son composiciones de Mark Knopfler salvo Just A Boy Away From Home donde comparte crditos junto a Rodgers y Hammerstein, puesto que en el tema se usa un fragmento de Youll Never Walk Alone para acelerar la historia de un solitario fan del Liverpool vagando por las calles vacas de Newcastle de madrugada.
